When ex-World War II pilot Joe Thacker came to the paradise known as St. Noel, in the Caribbean, he thought he was going to have it made. A swell boat. A gorgeous dame at his side. Joe had it all. Until those KGB goons came to the island and mucking everything up. Now, Joe’s on the run from the spies, as well as a group of voodoo followers spurred on by the death of their high priestess. The high priestess Joe has been framed for murdering.
Someone is out to get Ajax Clean, forensic cleaner for the mob. Is it the Haitian hitman with a chip on his shoulder? The mafia don who’s behind bars? The government spooks who’ve been hounding him for the last few weeks? Or someone from Clean’s past?
Death has a problem. Someone is killing people in the beach town of Summer Haven, and he has no idea how. Or who. Or why. What’s a Grim Reaper to do? Taking human form, he comes to town to investigate. But will the delights of the living world distract him too much to solve the case?
Death Warmed Over is a fun mystery with a great cast of characters, and I had a hard time putting it down. This is the first "whodunnit" by Kent Holloway and he hit it out of the park. Police Chief Becca Cole finds herself investigating a murder with some help from an unlikely source, the Grim Reaper, who has come to town to investigate some people who have died before their allotted time is up. The storyline is quite intriguing and I am already looking forward to the next book.
This book rocks! It was impossible to put down and caused a very sleepless night. Just the right balance of humor and action with an awesome twist. If you are looking for a fun whodunit that rivals Agatha Christie with a supernatural twist, this is for you!
J Kent Holloway does it again! Loved it. Mix of genres that just plain works. More, more, more! Can’t wait to see what’s next. Underrated ( though not as much anymore-thankfully ) writer who captures the reader from the start and spins a great story. Glad I read it.
Killypso Island is filled with adventure, mystery, intrigue, jungle, smugglers, monkeys, voodoo, secret lists, spies, beautiful dames, and an absolute overabundance of charm. A highly recommended, gonna-make-you-smile, whodunnit with style and wit. Kent Holloway has done it again!"
This is one of my favorite books. It's near and dear to my heart, and inspired by a great Killypso song from the 1940s called 'Run Joe' by Jordan Louis. There's also quite a bit of 'Tales of the Gold Monkey', one of my favorite 80s TV shows, too.
With more than 25 years experience in forensic death investigations, Kent Holloway has seen the worst the world has to offer...and he's never let it hinder his love of Christ, his good-natured spirit, and his sense of humor. In his writing, Kent strives to expose Death for what it is...something unnatural. Something that was never meant to exist. And something we have no need to fear.
My current work in progress is my very first attempt at Christian nonfiction. It's a collection of twenty of the strangest cases I've ever worked (or cases with very strange or weird elements in them) and the biblical lessons I've learned from them. Despite its macabre themes, it's lighthearted and fun, with lots of Forensic Files-type intrigue to please almost anyone (Christian or not) who loves a good mystery show. And in the end, the book is all about hope.
Currently seeking publication. More details to come.
